

Yarnell’s was the very first ice cream Sam ever sold, so the tradition has been kept alive at The Spark Café. Albert Yarnell, founder Ray Yarnell’s son, remembers the days of delivering ice cream with his dad to Sam Walton’s Ben Franklin store in Newport, Arkansas. The café proudly serves Yarnell’s, a family brand made in Searcy, Arkansas, not far from the Walmart Distribution Center. The Spark Café Soda Fountain is a tribute to Sam’s love of ice cream. But it made him feel good and likely brought back many fond memories. Helen, Sam’s wife, was not thrilled with the idea and would remind Sam that it wasn’t good for him. Alice Walton remembers many happy memories of often going for ice cream with her dad, something special the two of them shared.īecky Elliott, Sam’s secretary in his later days, recalls Sam calling her up to ask if she’d bring him his beloved sweet-and-creamy butter pecan when he was not feeling his best. But right up there is also his love of ice cream. Compared to the previous visit, the ham was a much lower quality. Todays visit, I just ordered a couple of eggs and a pice of city ham.

Again it is their place and they can do as they want. I have had corned beef hash many times, in many restaurants in different states - never had them like this. Their version of hash browns is home fries, some small pieces of corned beef added and BEEF GRAVEY over the top of the mixture! The I mentioned my surprise at this was told that that is they way - was tole that is the way Kosta's serves them. Today visit, my wife ordered "hash brown" with her meal. They must have used instant grits - still had multiple lumps of the uncooked grit mix. The last time I ordered something the came with grits. Have been given "home fries" that were not heated - about room temperature (that is on my list not to order again). They no longer serve hashbrowns waitstaff said many long time customers complained - wait staff said the new owner doesn't like them - so they are gone. restaurant, they can do what ever they want. With new ownership we have noticed many changes - not necessary to our liking.
